I have a lot of questions.
How can you justify one wrong thing by another?
For example: Abortion is better than Infanticide. Doing a drug that is legal is better than doing one that is illegal.
Why don’t we care about morality or think about what is wrong and what is right?
Why is it so wrong to put someone else before yourself? If you think about it, everyone would be so much happier that way. It shouldn’t be like you only give and don’t receive and it shouldn’t be the other way either.
Why do we love to point the finger at others and conveniently forget to examine ourselves?
Why do we blindly practice things? Why don’t we bother to find out what the reasons for something are?
Why do we look for temporary answers, temporary pleasure, temporary joy, temporary peace, temporary everything really!
Why does everything have to be instant?
Why is there a need to be secretive about everything?
Why do we love to gossip?
Why do we lurve to talk about sex?
WHY do we love to talk about celebrities and what they ate last night, or what they said last night, yadda, yadda, yadda? Just because they may look good, doesn’t mean anything really!
Why are we so good at lying?
I could go on and on… But before anyone jumps at me, let me point to your notice that I am not perfect and I do not exempt myself from “we” and say that I don’t do any of the above things. I do. Some of them are things that I really struggle against and I do believe that some things are plain wrong, some are plain unnecessary and a waste of time and some reflect on serious problems that go deeper than what may appear on the surface. It’s worth a thought.

Ask a question, find a hundred more, but at least you're not part of the angry mob that is becoming humanity.

It is peoples way of avoiding "depth" in conversation. In CU yesterday we were looking at conversations being like Bridges. every conversation is either a fluffy nothng nes that won't suport anything.. or a solid brige based on Faith. And ppl gossip and float around life trying 2 avoid having 2 step into this deep stuff. they don't want 2 face up 2 the truth. They want 2 do anything but have 2 lok at them selves and where they r truly headed...or what they truly belive. so they bring in all this airy fairy stuff instead. And by focusing on every one elses vulnerability and weeknesses you don't have 2 face up 2 your own (or atleast that's what i think they think). Ah well yeah it makes me cross 2.. but we are all of a fallen world... and it takes effort on our part 2 to b willing 2 see the truth and Love u plenty.

(WOW that became LOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGGGGG ) ;)

I agree to the lack of depth in conversations. But i also think that indulging in other topics of conversations which as u say, give temporary pleasure, are sometimes required to rejuvinate lives of people with not-so-perfect lives.that is,ofcourse, provided they are in moderate amounts, and are harmless, especially to the intellect of the person.
About putting others before urself,i firmly believe our 1st responsibility is towards ourselves, then definately others.

I kinda agree with Sonal. Our moral duty requires us to first have be responisble for our own happiness, then others. But the rest of the stuff you've said is true, Tina.
Btw, why this sudden outburst? Anything to do with FClectures?

Is a mother not supposed to be more concerned for her children and their happiness over her own? Is a father not supposed to be more concerned that his family has enough to survive over his own personal comfort?
Is a brother not supposed to love his brother enough to risk his life if it meant saving the other's life?
I don't want to be mean hearted, but the previous two commenters must feel very alone.

Hahah yeah i agree with AJ on this one... Isn't it just normal 2 put others first... Esp if there are people we know/ love whose lives are at stake??
But even if we are in something like say a crash site doesn't it make all the difference when people are willing to sacrifice their own safety and welbeing to help rescue others??
It is true that in some situations to be able to help others we have to help our selves first... like in an plane with low cabin pressure,... unless u put that mask on first u won't b concious 2 help others. (a very TCK example ;))
Yeah some thing that has been popping out to me often in church and in small groups is the whole thing where ... We can't focus on other people when we are soo bogged down with our selves... But then nor can we help others if we don't love our selves first. So there is a limit to it all. We need to love our selves/ take care of our needs... but not to the extent that it clogs out ability to love/ help others. And we've gotta work at finding the right and healthy balance ;)...( which may not nessesarily be an equal proportin of both by the way)

wow, this has spurred a lot of responses. its great to hear people talking and i think its important that we do that...
i still think we should put others first because our hapiness automatically follows that and what we wouldn't even exist if our mothers concentrated on the pain they went through to give birth to us or bring us up and didn't think of us first! we do have a responsibility towards ourselves because we have to take care of our bodies which is a God-given gift but the world never, ever, revolves around us... in fact i think it can be dangerous when we start to think that... its a selfish thought and can lead to our thinking that we can do without the rest and believe me there is a reason there are so many people around us.
i don't know what brought about the sudden outburst. I guess there are always loads of questions to ask...

whether you think it is a good or bad thing to be selfish - like almost every other line of moral reasoning - it'll manage to boil itself down to what you as an individual has as his or her moral thought system. religion, whether or not people like to admit/talk about it, is a big deal here.
I'll admit that I'm more selfish than I'd like to be.
conversations can be fluffy because it's so easy, and we're lazy. winston churchill said "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened."

when i say responsibility towards oneself,it need not mean that the world should revolve around ourselves.the world would come to an end that way!!if i had to sacrifice for my loved ones,i would do it because i WANT to,and not because im SUPPOSED to.its like if we are not true to ourselves, how on earth can we be to others?
alone?if it means being true to myself when thinking about others, maybe.
about fluffy conversations,in the course of reasoning,we sometimes tend to lose the moment.noone is guaranteed with permanent happiness, hence they seek temperory pleasures.

piuuuuuu.......im loving ur blog!!
keep it going.....

Hahhahah teens this is pretty intense man...lol. Hahahha now new topic...lol. This particular one is going 2 go in circles man...lol.

About the seekin temporary pleasures because we are not guaranteed permanent happiness,.. that's entirely a matter of we ther or not we have faith/believe in God and the word. But i won't go there cause that leads to an entirely different argument...lol.

Gah time 2 stop wasting time and get back 2 that essay. ..ta.

Sonal shouldve done philo man!! She wouldve topped-VERy honestly speaking!! oh and this is for Ajay and the Tribal kid (nice name btw :D)-
WHy does a mother starve to feed her kids? WHY does a father care about how his family is doing? WHY do we feel upset if a friend is hurt? simple-BECAUSE we care.Seeing them happy makes US happy. Im not saying its a conscious thought-"oh if I feed my kid today and I see the smile on his face then I feel will be happy'-no, it doesnt work like that-CONSCIOUSLY. But subconsciously-YES. Would we bother if someone we DONT care about (whoever it is) is upset or not? Obviously not. The mother loves her kids genuinely-not as an obligation-and thats why she goes through all that pain,Tina. Have you seen "Hanging up"? (Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan, Lisa Kudrow) The mother there doesnt care a shit for her kids. She doesnt care what happens to them. In short-whether they are happy or not, doesnt matter to HER happiness.
So well, all I'm trying to say is-you ALWAYS do things that give you SOME kind of satisfaction or happiness. ALWAYS. If you see your best friend walking away from the girl you've always liked and you chose not to speak up, its probably because -a) their happiness geuinely matters to you-you feel happy seeing them happy or b) you feel a certain satisfaction in having done the right thing. If you care for an injured dog on the road its because either a)-you feel happy tending to the dog or b) You feel happy on having done a good deed. You see? Either way, anything that you do amounts to happiness-your own. Like I said-its not a conscious thing. But think about it. The ultimate purpose of existence is happiness. That is why we are BORN. That is why we are HERE. Whther its doing something we enjoy or giving up something we love because the satisfaction we get on doing that exceeds our pain on having forgone that (0BVIOUSLY. Or else we wouldnt have done it. See?)being with someone we love or eating something we like or having a good converstaion or chucking away a well-paying job because it doesnt really make you happy and instead going for a trip aroind the world...WHY?

To be happy. believe me-for all those who think its selfish to be happy-its not. How wrong can it be to think of yourself? And well, seeing people you care about makes you happy doesnt it??

Jeez, you should NEVER get me started on this one, Tina :)
