Its happening.

Heat waves kill 500 in Hungary...
Flooding deaths prompt warnings...
Heatwave and wildfires across southeastern Europe...
Pakistan hit by deadly storms...
Sudan hit by major floods...
Major drought in Moldova...

These are just a few of the recent weather headlines I picked out from BBC.com
Why are we so indolent?
Why does something have to happen in our own backyard until we pay some attention to it?
Why are we not bothered as long as it doesn't affect us personally?

Maybe you're thinking, but this is just weather, we don't have control over it. But it's not. It's not JUST weather, it's Global Warming. It's because of you and me. It's because we keep ignoring the signs when they're glaring at us in the face. It's because we don't realise that these things just add to the problems that people already face.
A drought is not pleasant. Especially when a country is already stricken by war or extreme poverty.
The thing is, even if this is a situation millions of miles away, our actions have effects.

Right now, they're having negative effects. And it will get worse if we go on like this.
But we can make it better. Its as simple as turning off the lights when we leave the room. Turning off the ACs when we don't really need them. (ACs are very very bad carbon emmitters). Walking the small distances instead of driving there. Using public transport (I know its not always pleasant. Trust me, I live in Bombay)

But it really doesn't take much.
So what will you do to decrease your Global Warming footprint?

Here's a link to a site that lists the top 12 ways you can reduce Global Warming.

And there's plenty more information about the issue on the net. I've mentioned this many times before, I'll say it again. If you have time and a little bit of money, get a hold of this movie and watch it and get others to watch it too.

An Inconvenient Truth

Tina,
I'd love to chat with you about global warming etc. I think that you'd be very interested by the political and social standing of Global warming in America. Obviously everyone blames America for global warming, I really don't know anything about it, but politically it's a very hot topic. It'd driven by Liberals. Especially the far left. The inconvenient truth was made by Al Gore, I've never seen it, but I'd like to. Conservatives are used to far left 'end of the world' scenarios because they've been coming for years, for example all throughout the seventies it was global cooling, and how yada yada yada. Conservatives are afraid to side with the liberals, and in every other area, rightly so. Liberals in America basically seek control over (plenty of them deny it, but it's true) speech, religion, education, healthcare, the military, broadcasting and pretty much everything else a person must be part of in their lifetime. They want to equal everything, like time on the air between talk show hosts, tv hosts, they want to destroy the military, make educational curriculum pander to far left ideology. To a conservative mindset, it's like now they want one more thing, they'll probably start having some clandestine light bulb inspections. Unfortunatly Global warming does seem to be the real deal this time, but be careful about the subliminal stuff most poeple will tell you about it, because it's a liberal issue. It should be a unifying issue, over time, but it isn't.

Some public policy experts who are skeptical of global warming see Kyoto as a scheme to either slow the growth of the world's industrial democracies or to transfer wealth to the third world in what they claim is a global socialism initiative.
The US is the world's biggest greenhouse-gas emitter, and has only symbolically signed off on the Kyoto Protocol. Meaning, its said its a good idea but won't do it. I was talking to an engineer about this, and he expressed the view that it is really a shame, because even after other efforts [e.g. the UK has taken extensive measures to help cut harmful emissions] it makes not a sizeable dent without America agreeing to help.
It shouldn't be a liberal issue, it's very definitely a global issue. Destroying God's creation is uncool. [President Bush believes it will slow industry.]
